‘Dry needling’ refers to the insertion of thin monofilament needles, as used in the practice of acupuncture, without the use of injectate. Dry needling is typically used to treat muscles, ligaments, tendons, subcutaneous fascia, scar tissue, peripheral nerves, and neurovascular bundles for the management of a variety of craniofacial, cervicothoracic and upper extremity
neuromusculoskeletal conditions and pain syndromes. Dry needling typically targets taut bands of muscle (i.e. trigger points), as well peri-neural structures and needle puncture of tendons, ligaments, musculotendinous junctions, teno-osseous junctions, and bone (i.e. “periosteal pecking”). More specifically, peri-neural and peri-vascular dry needling have been demonstrated to improve microcirculation and disrupting fibrosis in chronic neurogenic pain conditions (e.g. an impacted median nerve in carpal tunnel syndrome). Dry needling is certainly a lot more than sticking needles in trigger points! The academic evidence on dry needling is supported by the framework of western musculoskeletal diagnoses. While the underlying physiologic mechanisms appear to be the same as acupuncture, dry needling does not share the theoretical framework of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), that is the purpose of altering the flow of Qi or energy along traditional Chinese meridians. Evidence-based guidelines have determined precise “point” locations, and dosages for the use of dry needling in the treatment of specific neuromusculoskeletal conditions (not just individual muscles!) including: whiplash-associated disorders, cervicogenic headaches, tension-type headaches, migraine headaches, rib syndromes, facet joint syndromes, cervical radiculopathy, mechanical neck pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, shoulder impingement syndrome, lateral epicondylalgia, and temporomandibular dysfunction. In addition, the most recent evidence underpinning the mechanical, pain-reducing (central, segmental, peripheral), neurophysiologic, chemical, and hormonal effects of dry needling suggests this tool is an incredibly valuable adjunct to improving musculoskeletal conditions. Brain imaging studies have demonstrated that dry needling of “key” distal points (not trigger points), that are not “onsite” with the patient’s symptoms, stimulates the descending pain inhibitory systems or cortical areas of the brain that are involved in pain control. Furthermore, much of the literature that “dry needling” draws from uses the term “acupuncture” in its title, and many of these studies have used both traditional acupuncture points and myofascial trigger points in their treatment regimes. For the management of headache, cervical, thoracic, and upper extremity pain syndromes, dry needling is a valuable part of the treatment package, in combination with joint mobilizations. That is, the most recent literature clearly supports the inclusion of upper cervical and/or cervicothoracic HVLA thrust manipulation for the effective treatment of TMJ disorders, subacromial pain syndrome and cervicogenic headaches. More specifically, upper cervical manipulation has been found to reduce headache frequency, intensity, duration, and disability associated with cervicogenic headaches in the short and long-term. Additionally, upper cervical spinal manipulation and dry needling have been found effective at reducing pain and improving active mouth opening in patients with TMD. Nevertheless, within the emerging literature, the combination of spinal manipulation and dry needling is showing the most promise for “best practice” models in a variety of musculoskeletal conditions. In essence, dry needling is part of the Osteopractic approach. |

Whether you choose to exercise at home or at a gym, I will provide you with the proper equipment recommendations to help you meet your fitness goals. This will likely include a swiss ball, dowel rod, mirror/camera, resistance bands, and dumbbells/kettlebells.
What to expect From an In-Person MOVEMENT session
The entire session duration lasts approximately 1 hour and is entirely one-on-one. This provides a safe space free from judgments and ensures maximum effectiveness in achieving your goals. For the first portion we will discuss your current status in relation to your goals. This may involve measuring some baseline bio-markers, mental status, briefly discuss proper body mechanics related to the exercises of the session, and go over any updates related to achieving your goals. The wellness consultation typically involves a personal training session that is approximately one hour and consists of a dynamic mobilization, stretching, warm-up, prescribed exercises, and post-training directions.
Typical 1 Hour Movement Session Breakdown

- ~5 minutes: Dynamic Movement Preparation
- ~45 minutes: Customized Exercise Prescription
- ~5 minutes: Keep the End in Mind
* each client is unique, therefore every session may vary in time so that your individual needs are met. This time may also be reserved for any other services including, but not limited to, developing nutrient programs, enhancing holistic lifestyle awareness, assessing environmental stressors, cultivating equanimity, augmenting embodiment, and assessing your path to total human optimization.
In-Person Movement Program Frequency
- 1x per week: We live in a busy world. This option is available for those who want to meet in-person although are unavailable to meet more often.
- 2x per week: For best results, it is in your best interest to train in-person to ensure you are training with perfect form.
In-PErson Movement Program Durations
In order to effectively reach your movement goals and transform your body, depending on your availability, it is in your best interest to train 4 days per week. If you do the work, your goals will be achieved. The program length is 12 weeks. Depending on your goals, we can lengthen your program to get the results you want. Physiological and psychological adaptations will vary based on bioindividuality, commitment, and lifestyle habits discussed when you join a program.
- 12 Weeks - This is the optimal duration to measure true success. Any duration shorter than this may not result in your desired outcomes. During this time, Joe will motivate and inspire you to become aware of and practice that which will assist you to become the best version of you. This is a complete mesocycle. Your health and performance-related goals will be achieved by engaging in a program length of this duration whether it is weight loss, cardio-endurance, muscular strength and endurance, flexibility, balance, speed, power, reaction time, agility, etc. Let's work together to obtain the results you have always dreamed of.
- 1 Session - While the main program offered lasts 3 months, I provide the option for an individual session to help you get an idea of where you are in relation to what you could be doing to optimize your mind and body. Do not expect much change to occur with only one session. The purpose of attending a single session is to test the waters and see if this is something that is right for you, however it is advised to engage in a longer program for maximum results.

I was diagnosed with Sacroliitis, which had created pain down my leg, changed my walking and caused my inability to sleep at night. Joe was my therapist and helped me with a series of exercises to strengthen my muscles and pelvis region. He listened to my symptoms and created a plan of exercises for me. I had a great experience with Joe. I had an injury that caused sciatic nerve pain. He recognized my ability level and need for hard exercises.
